MARIENBAD has gained its world fame primarily thanks to the town's natural wealth - its mineral springs, which have a healing effect. There are more than 100 healing water springs in the town's surroundings, 40 of which are located in the town itself. All the springs are cold.

THE HISTORY OF MARIENBAD
Ferdinand I.
The healing effects of the springs in the area around today's Marienbad were already known in the Middle Ages. In 1528, they were analysed for their salt content on behalf of King Ferdinand I.
Johann Josef Nehr
In1805-1807, Dr Josef Nehr built the first brick house for spa guests called "Zlatá koule" (Golden Sphere) at the Cross Spring on the site of the original wooden hut.
Karel Kašpar Reitenberger
In 1812, the independent municipality of Mariánské Lázně was founded by the abbot of the Teplá monastery, Karl K. Reitenberger.
